If energy is the source of all manifestation, then why is it that we sometimes come up short when trying to deliberately manifest what we want? The more energy we pour into something the faster and easier it should land in our experience…right? The more time we dedicate to imagining, feeling, expecting, the more elegant and exact our manifestation should be. Isn’t it all just a matter of channeling more attention toward what we want?
Well, not necessarily.
Learning how to manifest your own personal desires requires shifting your understanding of what happens when energy is exchanged – between two people or between a person and an as-yet-unrealized experience. This flow, or energetic exchange, dictates what you’ll end up with and when you’ll get it. Whether you’ll draw into your experience the perfect mate/house/job/friendship/body – or whether you’ll get close but continue to come up short.
Let’s start with a few principles about the nature of energy and how it works.
What’s your energetic account balance?
Though the universe contains an infinite amount of energy for you to draw from, you can only process a certain amount of energy at a time during your day-to-day life. You have the ability to increase the amount of energy you can cycle through, but your capacity to access infinite amounts of energy is, for all practical purposes, limited. After all, you can only think one thought at a time and there are a finite number of hours in a day.
Therefore, if there is a max cap on your ability to process energy, it becomes incredibly important for you to become extra conscious of your energetic expenditures. Much like your bank account reflects a limited amount of currency (your own bank balance), your energetic balance represents the amount of energy you currently have to devote to the things that you want from life.
Figuring out the value of your own energetic currency
Much like money, your energetic spending patterns say a lot about you. Some people have so much money that they spend frivolously – they don’t really understand the value of a dollar. Others are smart about their investments, recognizing that that each dollar is important but there is always more where that came from.
People tend to put a lot of effort into budgeting their finances, and it makes sense. The stakes are very high. If you don’t have enough money to pay your rent, you’ll lose your apartment. In fact, the balance between all your expenditures is obvious and one thing affects all the rest. For example, if you overspend on clothing, you’ll have to take money from your restaurant/travel budget.
When it comes to your own personal cash flow, balance is key. If you want a big “purchase” in the future, you’ll have to start saving now. Unfortunately, most of us don’t budget our energy the same way as we manage our finances. We tend to treat energy as if it’s a self-renewing resource, infinitely available. Yes, in the morning you wake up feeling regenerated, with more mental and physical energy than you went to sleep with, and you have the capacity to replenish your energy by eating well, exercising and finding mental calm. However, each of these replenishments requires time and/or focus. Without making a deliberate effort, you may be operating at an energetic deficit and not even realize it.
Deposit your energy into the right account
In order to see the landing of your desires, you must learn how to manifest by depositing your energy into the “accounts” of the things you want. That means not frivolously spending your energetic currency on trivial matters – or worse, depositing your energy into the accounts of the very things you’re trying to avoid.
Think of it this way: every time you think about something – wanted or unwanted – you spend mental energy. It’s like you’re making a payment toward that experience.
If you’re making a mental payment toward something that hasn’t happened, it’s equivalent to opening a savings account for that thing and making ongoing deposits into that account. Visualizing positively, researching it, talking about it, etc. all deposit energy into that account, bringing your dream ever closer to reality. By the same token, focusing on the things you don’t want deposits energy into those accounts, bringing the unwanted into your experience.
Remember, where you spend your energy MATTERS. Every single deposit is accounted for. You can’t spend 20 minutes fuming against a person or engrossed in negative thinking and expect for that not to land in your reality experience in some way. Your mental energy impacts the world, and your own experience of it.
So, take note of all the things you think about and talk about throughout the day. Make sure you’re “investing” your energy in what you truly want. Increase your “deposits” of excitement, optimism, enthusiasm and positive expectation and feel your energetic account balance grow.
